Dr. Lucinda Harman, was born in Odessa, Texas, on 5/10/52. She is a Registered Nurse and a Physiological Psychologist. She has worked in healthcare as a staff nurse, a manager, an administrator, a researcher and a teacher. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Odessa College in Odessa, Texas (1977), a Bachelors in Science in Psychology from the University of Houston, Hosuton Texas (1979), a Masters of Arts (1985) and a Doctorate of Philosophy (1988) in Experimental Psychology from the University of Louisville, Louisville Kentucky.
Dr. Harman teaches psychology at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas.
Dr. Harman has always been active in community and church activities. As a teenager she taught swimming lessons to disabled children. She worked in Vacation Bible Schools in her own church and in other churches in rural and underprivileged areas. She has participated in church choir and community theaters most of her life. She also has volunteered in organizations ranging from child abuse prevention teams to the American Cancer Society and native Hawaiian healthcare organizations.
Dr. Harman is a volunteer with BellNET and is a member of the Central Texas Live Poet's Society. She has published her first poem this year.
Even before becoming disabled and wheelchair bound, Dr. Harman has been active in organizations assisting the disabled. Currently, she is President of the Temple Area Rehabilitation Association, a member of the The Bell County Judge and Commissioners' Committee on People with Disabilities, and the grants committe chairperson for the Children's Specialty Needs Network. Dr. Harman continues her church work in the International Student's Department at the First Baptist Church of Belton. Recently, Dr. Harman received the "Editor's Choice Award" for her poem, The Bluest Tear, which is to be published in the Lasting Mirage anthology published by the National Library of Poetry. Also, Dr. Harman was named "Poet of Merit for 1997" and is in the running for "International Poet of the Year for 1997".
