Field Trip
Purpose:
This field trip should be designed to allow students an up-close observation of a working water treatment plant in their area.
Objectives:
As a result of this activity, the student will:
1. Compare the information they have gathered on water treatment systems with an actual working system.
2. Develop and understanding of where the water in their homes originates.
Materials:
* Field trip permission slip
TEKS: 3.1A,B 3.2A,E 3.3A,B,C,D 3.11A,B
Procedures:
1. Contact your local water treatment facility. Many facilities have tours developed for school outings.
2. You may want your students to take along their science journals and a pencil so that they can take notes.
Questions:
1. How was this water treatment plant like the one that we created on our mural?
2. What was different about it?
3. What surprised you most about the actual water treatment plant?
4. How important is it to have clean water?
5. What types of things would you need to study if you were going to work in a water treatment facility?
