Explain to students that they are going to focus in on one particular wildlife habitat, the wetland area.

Let them explore the resources you have collected in small groups and take notes on everything they can find about this habitat.

Brainstorm as a whole group and make a web of characteristics of a wetland (animals, plants, types of shelter, etc.).

Start a word wall made from green butcher paper titled "Wetlands," and list the words the children come up for the next few days. Mount it in the room, letting students add to it if they wish.

Play a tape of sounds from the wetland area, having students imagine the smells, temperature of the air, etc.

Students respond in journals, "Describe a wetland"

Assessment:

Group participation, notes collected, cooperation in group, journal response
