BARK RUBBING


 

Purpose: To improve the students' use of descriptive language, To provide opportunity for student's to compare various textures.
Season: All seasons
Materials: Paper (about typing paper weight), wax crayons with paper peeled off
TEKS: 1.2A,B,C,D,E    1.3A    1.4B,C
Procedure:
  1. Hold a sheet of paper over the bark and rub with the side of the crayon over the paper.
  2. (Smooth barks tend to produce more effective rubbing than rough ones.)
  3. At school, create Venn diagrams comparing the different barks.
Questions:
  1. What common patterns do you see?
  2. Would animals like climbing on certain textures more the others? Why? Why not?
