| Procedure: |
- Talk with the children about the types of natural objects that would make good counters.
- Brainstorm objects most likely and least likely to be found at Miller Springs.
- Designate an area or trail for collecting. Set a time limit if necessary.
- After the collecting time, have students work in small teams to classify objects.
Encourage them to classify using several different attributes--color, size, texture,
shape, hardness, etc. Count and record objects in each classification. Create graphs using
this data in the classroom.
- Remind students not to pick leaves or flowers from plants.
