TOUCH HIKE


Purpose: To improve the student's sense of touch through interactions with living and nonliving things found in nature, To expand the descriptive vocabulary of the student.
Season: All
Materials: Containers or sacks, and the Touch Hike list
TEKS: K.2A,B,D,E    K.3A,B    K.8A,B
Procedure:
  1. Pair students
  2. Ask the adult helper to read the list of textures and show a few examples.
  3. Decide whether students may collect items or have the student describe what he/she is feeling to the adult helper.
  4. Have students share some of their touch items.
Questions:
  1. What other things can you name that may have a similar texture? (A sharp rock is like a sharp knife.)
  2. Which texture did you find the most?
