Do Plants Give Off Water Vapor?

Purpose: To develop the students' observation skills
Season: Spring, summer, fall
Materials: Two plastic bags and short pieces of string
TEKS: 2.2A,B,C,D,E,F    2.3A,B
Procedure:
  1. When first arriving at Miller Springs, place the plastic bag carefully over the end of a leafy branch and tie the opening firmly closed around the branch.
  2. Locate dead limbs or a twigs on a tree that have no leaves on it. Secure a plastic bag around these also.
  3. Allow children to make predictions regarding what will be found in the bags in a few hours when they leave.
Questions: Where is the water coming from?
How does the water get out of the leaves?
