ROCK SCAVENGER HUNT


Purpose: To test the student's ability to follow oral directions.
To improve the student's abilities in observation.
To assess the student's understanding of descriptive terms
Season: All
Materials: Students will need to have a list of rock types to find for the hunt.
Procedures:
  1. Explain to students that they are going to have a scavenger hunt for different types of rocks.
  2. Go over the list orally with students.
  3. Define the boundaries of the hunt area ­ be sure to define a fairly large area.
  4. Allow the students ten to fifteen minutes for the hunt.
  5. At the end of the allotted time, bring the students together and check the results. Example ­ have them hold up a white rock, a rock with crystals and etc. Make positive comments about different rocks displayed by the students.
Questions: What would happen if everyone went to Miller Springs to find counters?
