Temperature Variations

Purpose: To practice reading a thermometer, To create and interpret a graph.
Season: All
Materials: Thermometers (one for each team), paper, pencil, clipboard
TEKS: 3.1A    3.2A thru E    3.3A,B     3.4A,B
Procedure:
  1. Divide the children into small teams.
  2. Designate areas for the children to work in and set a time limit.
  3. Take temperatures in a variety of areas: sunny, shady, parking area by the busses, at the base of a tree, in tree branches, in a child's pocket, etc.
  4. Take temperatures under papers with varied colors.
Questions: What colors of clothing would you use if you wanted to: keep warmer? keep cooler?
