HELPFUL HINTS: A few points to help you plan your visit to Miller Springs.
(1)Its a good idea to call and schedule your visit to Miller Springs through Belton Independent School District. You dont want to have a lot of other schools there during you visit. The parking area has plenty of room for school buses.
(2)Walk the kids down the North Trail from the parking area to the rim of New Canyon. Its a exciting first walk for students after they get off the bus. I use the area near the east end of the mural wall as the meeting point for all activities. While the buses are parked in the new parking area, you should have plenty of water for your students near the mural wall. You can call the Lake Belton Corps of Engineers to make arrangements to get the gate open to bring in a car with a couple of large water jugs. Bring a few extra rolls of toilet paper for the porta-lets
(3). Plan how you want to have lunch. The easiest way is to have them eat near the buses. However, it does add about thirty minutes on the schedule to have students move back and forth. Make sure you bring extra trash bags and have extra water near your lunch area. On a warm day, after four or five stations, your kids will be dragging! Its great! Quiet ride on the way home! Miller Springs is a great educational area. Questions? E-mail me at mikeyc@tenet.edu.
