Ecosystem Observation

An ecosystem is composed of both biotic (living) and abiotic (nonliving) components, such as light, temperature, wind, water, slope, shade, rocks, litter and many others. These components have many obvious connections to one another and other connections that are not readily obvious.

Observe a portion of an ecosystem and list biotic and abiotic components. Indicate possible relationships among all components.

Select one of the biotic components listed. Indicate how it is affected by other organisms listed and how it affects other organisms. Also indicate the relationships between the chosen organism (biotic component) and the abiotic components listed.
