Temperature Changes

Purpose:

The children graph the changes in temperature to determine which changes least, most.

Materials:

thermometers for each team of children

containers for water

data sheets/graph paper

Procedure:

1. Prepare containers one with water and one with soil.

2. Set the containers outside in the morning and record temperature. Be sure to record air temperature.

3. Take another temperature reading at the end of the day.

4. Take another reading in the morning.

5. Graph the results.

Questions:

1. Which environment changed the most?

2. Which environment changed the slowest?

3. What conclusions can you draw from this data?
